Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

LPA appoints persons to act on a person's behalf if he loses capacity to make his own decisions.

The LPA is a legal document which allows a person who is at least 21 years of age, to voluntarily appoint one or more persons he trusts to make decisions and act on his behalf if he should lose capacity to make his own decisions. This person(s) can be appointed to decide and act in two broad areas: personal welfare as well as property & affairs matters. An LPA has to be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian.
