Adopting a growth mindset helps maintain your brain plasticity by challenging yourself, stimulating your brain, changing the way you think, and expanding your learning experiences. This workshop enables you to capture fulfilment and live a robust lifestyle that is purposeful and meaningful. Why is growth mindset especially important as we age? Simply put, a growth mindset is when you believe your skills can be developed at any age. If you have a growth mindset, you will probably go beyond protecting your cognitive decline and agree with statements like: • Even if I am not born with that talent, skill, or intelligence, I can work hard and learn how to develop it. • Perseverance and practice lead to success • I have not mastered this yet. I need to work harder or try a new approach. • I believe in the power of “YET” • Changing the way I think can change the way I learn • I learn from and adapt to different experiences Fixed Mindset As opposed to a fixed mindset, which is when you believe you are either born with or without a skill, talent, or intelligence level. People with a fixed mindset tend to agree with statements like: • I am no longer young to learn anything new • I am not born with that talent so I cannot do this skill. • That skill just comes naturally to her/him but not me. • I am not good at this. I shouldn’t bother trying anymore and should just move on to something else. • Putting in effort is a waste of time. • If I fail, I should not try again because it is a waste of time.
